What Is Evo?

Looking for Evo? Are you seeking information on the Sprint EVO 4G, Seattle's Evo Gear, the Mitsubishi Evo, Evo Food from Natura Pet Foods, the Compaq Evo, or one of the many other Evos on the net?

Sprint Evo

Sprint HTC EVO 4G Evo commonly refers to the Sprint Evo, or the HTC Evo 4G, the Google Android 2.1-powered – or Android 2.2 via the Evo Froyo update – HTC smartphone that directly competes with Apple's iPhone 4 as well as smartphones like the Droid X and Samsung Galaxy S / Samsung Epic 4G.

The Sprint Evo is the first phone to deliver 4G support (in addition to 3G support), and the HTC smartphone also offers a large 4.3" screen (compared to the iPhone 4's 3.5" display) with dual cameras (8MP with flash and a front-facing, non-flash 1.3MP), an HDMI output, and a 32GB MicroSD card to go along with its 1GHz Snapdragon processor and the ability to serve as a mobile hotspot for up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled devices.

The Sprint Evo 4G is the top-of-the-line smartphone offered by Sprint and competes directly with Verizon's HTC Incredible and Motorola Droid X, T-Mobile's HD2 and the recently released T-Mobile G2, and as mentioned earlier, Apple and AT&T's iPhone 4.

The Sprint Evo's built-in 720p HD video camera and HDMI output make it possible to record and output HD-quality video to your HD-capable TV. The Sprint Evo even offers a handy kickstand for propping the screen upright on a table or desk to make viewing easier.

The Sprint HTC EVO 4G retails for $449.99 but can be purchased for $199.99 with a new customer agreement, instant savings, and mail-in rebates taken into account.

A new Sprint Evo went live on January 9th, 2011 when Sprint released its version of the HTC Desire Z called the HTC EVO Shift 4G, which features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard to go along with the Evo's other features. Additional Sprint HTC EVO are being developed as well, with the Sprint EVO 3D and a 7-inch tablet called the Sprint EVO View tablet expected in the near future.

Sprint Evo owners also have a seemlingly endless selection of Evo accessories to choose from thanks to the phone's popularity. The Sprint Evo can be customized with a variety of EVO case and covers, skins and screen protectors, adapters, chargers, headsets, and more.

For all of its touted features, the HTC EVO has not been without its share of criticized shortcomings. Issues with the phone's two-way video chat not working, spotty 4G support (available in less than 30 cities at the moment), and battery life concerns have topped the list of complaints to date.

Sprint did deliver an update on June 29th, 2010 for the Sprint Evo 4G to help improve Wi-Fi reception, address issues with Exchange email support, and fix some of the issues with battery life.

Another update, the much-anticipated "Evo Froyo" Android 2.2 update, debuted on August 3rd, 2010 with added support for voice dialing over Bluetooth, the ability to store apps on external memory cards, an updated Android Market interface, faster OS performance, support for Adobe Flash 10.1, rotating camera icons, an updated browser with Chrome's V8 JavaScript engine.

Mitsubishi Evo

Evo also refers to Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution, or the Mitsubishi Evo, a high-performance sports sedan originally launched in 1992 that is now on its tenth official model, the Mitsubishi Evo X, with an eleventh model, the Mitsubishi Evo XI, Mitsubishi Evo slated to arrive in 2013.

The Mitsubishi Evo X is often compared with the likes of the Subaru WRX STI, Pontiac G8 GXP, BMW 335i, and Ford Taurus SHO in the sports sedan category.

The Mitsubishi Evo's cult-like following has created an expansive market for Evo tuning services and products. There are now countless Evo tuning options for customizing the Mitsubishi Evo, and web sites and forums for aftermarket upgrades and accessories for the Mitsubishi Evo abound on the internet as well as in print magazines.

The latest model, the Evo X, debuted at dealers for the 2008 model year. Plans for an eleventh model of the Mitsubishi Evo were nearly scrapped due to tightening emissions regulations, but the upcoming Mitsubishi Evo XI is now expected to make its debut in 2013.

The Evo XI will likely be a diesel hybrid Evo that will combine clean-diesel technology and an electric motor to help keep the Mitsubishi Evo XI's CO2 emissions below 200 grams per kilometer while not diminishing any aspect of the Evo's vaunted performance — the Mitsubishi Evo XI is expected to go from 0 to 60 in just about 4.5 seconds.

The key question for the new model is whether loyal fans of the Mitsubishi Evo will be on board with Mitsubishi's choice of paring the Evo's iconic performance with a new green footprint.

Evo Food

Evo Food and Innova dog food brands are manufactured by Natura Pet Products, Inc., a privately-held company based in Davis, California, that was recently acquired by Procter & Gamble (P&G).

Natura's products join P&G's existing Eukanuba and Iams pet food brands as the company looks to increase its presence in the holistic and natural pet food market. The Natura acquisition preceded the recent recall of Iams and Eukanuba cat and dog foods due to potential Salmonella contamination, which has since been expanded to include additional veterinary and specialized dry pet food formulas,

Evo Food Innova Evo food for cats, dogs, and ferrets are higher-end pet foods that combine balanced nutrition with high quality ingredients seldom found in commercial pet foods. In March 2011 Natura Pet Products changed it policy to enable pet retail stores like Petsmart to sell Innova pet food products.

Natura's "holistic" line of pet foods also includes HealthWise, California Natural, Mother Nature, and Karma Organic pet food brands. These brands continue to be sold only by independent pet food retailers

Natura's Evo Food and other pet foods compete in the premium natural pet foods market with companies like Orijen, Wysong, Wellness, Taste of the Wild, Artemis, Flint River Ranch, Blue Wilderness, and Blue Buffalo dog foods.

Evo food delivers a protein-rich, grain-free dog food and cat food alternative to carbohydrate-heavy pet foods. Interest in reduced-grain and grain-free pet foods has risen dramatically following 2007's international pet food recalls that result from melamine contamination in the ingredient wheat gluten imported from China.

Evo models its diets after what the ancestors of domestic dogs and cats would have eaten in the wild. Evo food is available in a variety of canned and dry dog food, cat food, and ferret food.

Natura's most popular product offering is its Innova dog food and cat food product line, which Natura touts as the first "true" holistic pet food. Innova foods incorporate elements from each of the meat, dairy, vegetable, fruit, and grain food groups, as well as essential fats and oils, for a balanced, healthy pet food diet.

Compaq Evo The Compaq Evo brand quickly became popular with businesses and schools (as well as home users) for its affordable, compact product offerings.
